G&L BABP Limited Edition L2500

Postby Flash » Mon Oct 15, 2007 2:01 pm

After teasing you guys for a while here, we can let the cat out of the bag on this. The specs are going to be close to the L2000 LE specs but with a couple of differences as fretted ebony is no longer available for fingerboards. So it will be an L2500 with an ash body finished in blackburst with a solid black headstock with the BABP logo (and this time it won't have the rectangular outline around it!). It will feature parallel/single coil/series switching. But this time there will be some fingerboard options - rosewood, maple or fretless ebony (all with no fingerboard dots). And before anybody asks, here are the standard specs for an L2500:

Image

Pricing will be as follows. If you are not a BABP Member, $1590 for fretted and $1740 for fretless. If you are a BABP member, you need to e-mail me at matt@guitarmannyc.com with your User Name for the BABP discounted price. Please do not PM me here. It's easier for me to keep track of things by e-mail and the inbox here will just get filled up.

And now the fine print. We are not going to be taking orders quite yet because G&L is building a prototype of this bass for me to check out because we just want to make sure it is as good as the first LE we did. We have yet to ever hear an L2500 with the single coil option but we just want to make sure that it works as well as it does on an L2000. We expect to be taking orders before the end of the year and we will probably place the order at the January NAMM show if all goes as expected. That should give us an early Spring delivery. Once we start taking orders, we will need a 50% deposit. Now here is the other snag. In order to keep the pricing reasonable, we need as close to 10 orders on each fingerboard option as possible. So if you are planning on ordering, the sooner you can let me know, the better so that I get get a rough idea of numbers.

Put me down for fretted maple, but I'll take rosewood if I have to!

I'm in with maple preferred but willing to swing the other way if necessary.

Looks a bit odd black on maple board but I can live with it. Maple for me too.

I like black and maple, it gives all that darkness some contrast.

Will G&L do both GOT and painted headstock on the same instrument? I have never seen one, but it would be great if they do. I have an L-2500 with the gun-oil tint neck and love it.

Yup, they do....................

But I don't think it is an option after contacting Matt. I think You can order Maple or Rosewood Fretted (no Birdseye Maple FB or GOT Neck) and plain Ebony Fretless (no inlaid ghostlines).

Matt, can you clarify for everyone?..............

I'm with chef, no gun oil tint. I want to be able to install my own cheese.
