SG Reissue - Coral Pink

Well, this is foreign territory for me - Gibson that is. My local dealer has given me an excellent price on a Coral Pink SG Reissue (new). I played it because it was goofy, but was really surprised at how much I liked it - sound wise and feel (Ampeg B200r probably didn't hurt things either). Not a short-scale kind of guy, but it felt good.

I have to say, it is more of a visual thing - its quirky. I play in a dirty little rock band (Blame It On Cain), and the singer and I aren't little dudes - I'm 6 foot, unfortunately pushing 3 bills. So, I'm thinking a pink SG with its little devil horns, and my sweet pink and white Playboy strap (actually purchased at the Gibson Custom Shop moving auction a few years ago) would look kind of fun on big doofus like me. Plus, I do really like the sound. Was also thinking of getting a cool pin-up girl type waterslide to dress it up. I really like the unlaquered finish too.

Actually, I do have to take a look at myself in the mirror with it when I go back - what I think is quirky may actually just be stupid.

Fortunately, my job is going well and my company has actually issued bonuses, so I've got the cake. I'm actually trying to talk myself out of it - last thing I need is another bass. But, I am playing regularly now. If I by a bass, I keep the economy moving forward, don't I? Ahhh, the internal conflict...

Not sure I really have a question - any thoughts from the brethren? I've read the archived posts on the SGs - any other comments from SG owners?

Can't blame you for the temptation. I've only ever seen that bass in trans-red with black and never liked it much. But I finally saw some pics in solid, glossy colors and it's a whole 'nother look. I wish Gibson would push those other colors a bit more.

Ha! Why not go for the classic cherry red finish since you liked it so much?

If I could manage a pink paisley SCPB you can manage the SG.

I still would like one of those Daisey basses for a jam bass. So the players that don't bring an axe to the jam have something to play.

I like the new Gibson SG basses. I played two of them recently and they felt nice and sounded neat. If I didn't have a really nice original '65 I'd get one of the new SGs--but I'll probaly get one soon anyway!

I got one last yer from GC. They were blowing them out and I had the balls to ask for another 20% because I'm a preferred customer.
So the bottom line was a new Gibson SG Supreme in Natural finish delivered for $720 including a Gibson HSC.

I changed the bridge to a HipShot and wow. Great bass and now the ability to tweek the intonation and string height individually.

I love my SG Reissue. THe TB Plus pickup in the neck position is so much more versatile than the old mudbuckers.

I played one almost two weeks ago at the Guitar Center in Nashville and loved it. Quite honestly, I just might get one. Perhaps not pink (that color clashes with my yellow pumps), but I would like to find one in another odd color.

Yep, the bass played well and sounded quite good. It might not have the "vibe" of my '65 EB3, but it sure has a nice "vibe" of its own. What the hell--what's another bass to a guy like me?
