Tobias Model T

For more years then I can remember I always loved the look of Tobias basses. Well finally got one....and a interesting on at that!

Back around 1990, Tobias at that point had been sold to Gibson but Mike Tobias was still running the show. They could not keep up with orders at the time so they decided to contract out to have some basses built elsewhere. They asked a New England builder to make 110 of these "Model T" Tobias basses. Well ends up, this New England builder was Mike Pedulla! If you are not familiar with Mike Pedualla, check him out on the web. He makes some beautiful basses including the Pentabuzz fretless.

Well this Tobias I got a hold of is #25 out of 110. And for a 20 year old bass it is in incredible shape. The Bartolini electronics in this bass are oh sooo sweet!

Damn Glad To Meet You! :D

Mike Pedulla was an early influence for me: His shop was the next town over and I'd go hang out and pick his brains. I'd go buy a fingerboard and then hang around all afternoon chatting. i got to play Jaco's BUZZ bass.... sad part was that back then (late 70's) I didn't know who Jaco was......but maybe some of his mojo rubbed off on me [smilie=food-smiley-004.gif]

as soon as you said 'NE builder" and as soon as I saw the birdseye maple, I knew you were talking about Mike Pedulla......

nice looking bass!

Very Nice! [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

I can definitely see the early influences to my MTD 535 in this instrument. Mr. Tobias and Mr. Pedulla are two very gifted luthiers to the bass world that is for sure. I like that Lama guy too. ;)

Just completed a Google search for Tobias Model T...imagine my shock and awe when this pops up, I click it, and my very bass comes up on this thread! The TB 025 is in my hands as I type this! I just bought it today and am starting to be pleasantly surprised...first by the impeccable quality as it looks and feels almost identical to my maple Alembic Elan basses of the late 80's and second, that I learned it was made by Mike Pedulla, a manufacturer that I have ALWAYS admired ! This is my first post to this site and most definitely not my last.....I currently own, play and cherish 66 electric basses even though literally hundreds have passed through my hands over my 36 years of playing bass. chat more soon....let me get my profile going ! Cheers! [smilie=food-smiley-004.gif]
