Marleaux anyone?

Postby AchimII » Sun Nov 27, 2011 3:54 am

After going thru a lot of nice stuff here, I haven't find one, so here we go...

My first one is a Consat Custom 5 neck thru. Got it new from a local shop.

The second one is basically the same, but 4 string. I put a lowball bid on ebay, forgot about it, and then got the "winner" email from ebay [smilie=coz.gif] Just the wood on front and back is the other way round.

#3 is a MBass 4-string. There had been made a handful of them, most popular is 5 and 6-string. MBass has a set-neck design, this one is powered be a J/M set with wood covers and a active/passive 2-Band eq with passive tone control. Plays excellent, but the pups lack in output, and the preamp is made to equal active/passive, so it has never a chance to gig next to the L2K.

Finally, this is only 1/2 Marleaux. A local luthier asked Marleaux to build bodies/necks for him. This was the first one they did together (no idea if they still work together).

So until here it's Marleaux...

Body, cut for Bart MM and J, both noiseless. J-Retro 18V, the MM can be split to serial, parallel and SC.

Funny enough, it's the simplest construction, but got the most playing time [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

A friend of mine has one of those tiny little Marleaux basses. It's interesting but not something for everyday use.

I guess you are talking about the Consat Sopran? Just saw that on the Marleaux HP, I didn't even know they exist [smilie=coz.gif]

The "Basstard", is it Vol/Vol/Tone with a switch then?
Would like to see the controls on that one.

Hi,

it's a J-Retro deluxe, build as a 18V (9V is stock), with an added switch to set the MM-pup SC/Ser/Par.

J-Retro-deluxe.jpg

Left to right, It is (tip/ring)
1. Volume / pup blend
2. Treble (push-pull Trebble boost) / Bass
3. Mid / Mid Freq.
4. passive tone blend that works in both active and passive ( -> 'deluxe' version)

The switches are (left) neck/both pups (passive out-of-trouble mode) and (right) active/passive

The 3. switch for the MM pup is missing in the pick, it has been installed later.

The two blue things under the Vol knob are to adjust each pickup's output.

For any question about details, I hope Gil will jump in, he is the second-most experienced with these things, right after John East, who builds them [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

I played several of those at NAMM this year. Beautiful basses, and they play great too.

Well I remember that Consat 5er very well, it's a wonderful bass. Too bad I couldn't go on with that neck profile, I prefer rounder necks.
And I remember the Bass Tard quite well also. Cool axe. [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]

There's a whole article about them in this month's Bass Player mag. I'd love to try them out. [smilie=cool-smiley-027.gif]
