Put the grab on a GVJ

Postby Cneck » Fri Dec 23, 2011 9:40 am

As I think I mentioned previously, I've been on a bit of a bass-buying spree lately. I need another 4-string like I need a hole in the head, but I always wanted to try a Modulus GVJ. The idea of the wood neck surrounding the graphite spine intrigues me. So one came up over at TB with VIllex pickups which I've also always wanted to try, and I snagged it. This one has the whole package: CAR, chechen fingerboard, and the Villex system. I've only been able to play it for 20 min. or so, but I'm liking it so far. The seller had just put a set of TI's on it, which helps.

Here's a link to a thread where it was sold a while back: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f126/fs-m ... ps-743388/

Based on the pix, I thought it would be sort of like Fiesta Red, but it's really a nice CAR-type color.

I am a big fan of Modulus basses, I have owned a total of 8, 2 I built from parts with Modulus necks.

IMO, They are the most consistant sounding basses I have played.

I really like the red with the red tort and Chechen.
I have never owned a Genisis, but watch out for the early ones, they used softer wood in the necks on the very early ones and had some issues with warping, twisting.
