Good compressor?

Rig talk.

PF has landed. Scratchy pot, but that's an easy fix.

Sounds good. Doesn't really effect (affect??) the tone besides thickening it up a little and making the SPL's consistant. I'll have to gig with it a few times to really get to know it.

Drive around "5" is a good all purpose setting on the PF for me. Then adjust the volume depending on how hot the bass is.

Thanks for the heads up, Mark!

I'm going to use it tonight.

BTW: You guys use the direct out on it? How does it sound for live use?

I've never used the DI on it, but I figure it's there in case I need it some time (eg. rig failure)

Quit

I used it last night. Didn't dig it. Made me feel very "disconected" from my bass.

BUT:
--Had it set at "7". Prolly too much compression.
--Once our sound check is done our levels need to (try and) stay the same as we run our own sound from stage. So I didn't want to tweak the controls and mess with the levels I feed to the FOH.
--Quite frankly, I sucked last night anyway. Not a good night to test a new piece of gear.

Give it time. Any new piece needs to be played with and tweaked a while before you know what it really does. Keep posting though...

I use the one on my amp (GK) it seems to work fine for when I get a little over excited and dig in.

One thing I have noticed, on some outboard comps is that they seem to (very slightly) delay the signal. Just a few ms, but noticable.

not sure if that is what you are feeling Bruce, but I get that on some of them.

That's exactly what I was feeling. I was not aware of that delay.

I cycle through a compressor stage every few years or so, but I always go back to not using one. I do keep the Aphex PF in my toy drawer just in case I get that feeling again. [smilie=cheeky-smiley-025.gif]

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm new here...and I have one of these A.M.P. amps! I've only really tried it a couple times. It worked great with a 4ohm Black Widow. However, I used my Factory Punch compressor and it sounded like mud. Yucky. Which is weird because when I test-drove a Markbass LMK there was no problem like that. Oh well, the limiter on the AMP seems alright so far.
