Gigged a pair of 15's for the first time in ages...

Postby 57RIP » Mon Oct 10, 2011 7:34 am

Saturday nght, 2 2.6 cuft ported boxes loaded with 3015's. Small room, cramped stage. Blues & swamp rock. Used my little GK head and p bass. Nice low end grunt but still tight. Kind of a Bag End, with bottom. I sent my bass to the FOH with my U5 of course. I'm not going for a steady diet of it but in that setting, it works nicely.

I'm looking forward to getting the old Music Man RD-100 rebuilt for that rig. Who knows, maybe I'll start micing a cab.

Love 15s for roots. I still look for garage sell Peavey 2x15 cabs with the metal strips down the sides, loaded with Black Widows. The 70s version. Great blues cab there.

Yeah, I had the old Sunn box with the center ports and D140's for quite a while.m after I got my SVT, it sat in rehearsal mostly. Loved that cab for it's tone and it was real light for it's day too.

You might remember my local Craigslist score for $80. It had the K-140's, and I agree with all of you, it's got a cool vintage thump. I haven't tried the Streamliner heads on it yet. Anyone have an idea what the power rating is on these cabs?

I happen to have two of those old Sunn cabs sitting right here in my studio.

They still sound great, but I never use them live anymore.

I am a fan of 15's as well. My "big rig" (which is not really that big) is with the Bag End 15 and a Bag End 10 on top.

I had a sunn beta head back in the day and a matching 2x15" cab, but I think those jables had the chrome dust covers? Mine did not :(

I love the fEarful cabs or the smooth, deep, present aound they have - for most of my dates, that will be the call. For my gig with Eddie Corduroy and The Jackets, the MM head and 15's is just the way ro rock it... We are basically the rowdiest lounge act ever [smilie=grinning-smiley-044.gif]

That sounds like a blast.

I'd love to see your band in action.

Not only will I let you know next time we're out and about... I'll get you a sit in slot. This 4 piece is really a great groove oriented kinda blues, kinda rockabilly, kinda surfy thing. Playing with them is easy as falling off the log...

Hello! That got my attention!

Pretty much my dream rig right there. A good 1x15 (or two) is all I need to be happy. Something about 15's that just have a certain stank to them that other speaker size/configurations just don't have. And if they're put together well and with some thought, no tweet is need either.

Of course, no pics = no rig, as they say.
