Ummm...just because, vintage amps...

Rig talk.

Ummm...just because, vintage amps...

Postby kennans » Wed Apr 24, 2013 4:05 pm

I need a vintage rig.

I know, I know; small rig guy.

But opportunity may not be knocking on my door, but I see it right up the street, and it knows where i live.

So fill me in; what should I seek, avoid, and do?

How loud do you need to be? There's a lot of great reviews of the new Fender tube amps. The little 100 watter is very cool. I'll bet Pete can get you a deal on one. I know it's not vintage by age but it's vintage by tone.

For what I need, I think it needs to be loud. Or should I say "LOUD!"

Seek an SVT, avoid carrying it.

An SVT or check out the new Fender 300 watter. If I had the extra $$, I'd get one. [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

I dig that old-timey Fender look, but man, that's a lot of sawbucks.

It is but the 100T is much less and the guys that have them say that they're plenty loud. They don't seem to be coming up on the used market either.

Traynor YBA-200. Less than half the weight of an SVT, and twice the volume of a 100T. All toob. Or, if you really do need 300 watts, go for it's big brother the YBA-300 (still only half the weight of an SVT, and just as loud)

Or if you really want to spend some $$, get a Reeves.

A buddy here uses 2 flip tops...one on each side of the stage. That with a mic on one is a great setup. Easy haul, vintage tone, good investment.
