Gallien Krueger 700rb/210 combo opinions.

Postby hoytbasses » Tue May 14, 2013 3:25 pm

ONe of my dear friends/customers has a GK 700rb/210 combo he wants to unload. It's big, powerful and heavy, I know.

I'm wondering if any of my bretheren/sisteren have one of these amps and your opinions....

I'm playing some bigger rooms with a THREE guitar band, so you know there's no quiet tunes with that crew.. and I play probably 20 + dates a year with them and my little 400rb can't cut it.

whatyou think?

thanks

Karl

I think Gonzo played one for years. I'm sure he'll be able to give you an opinion.

Mine is the 1001RB version-

Image

Yes, heavy by today's standards at 85 pounds but has the telescopic handle and tiltback wheels.
All the bells and whistles;
Tuner out, effects loop, active pad, ground lift, Speakon and 1/4 extension outs, built in DI w/pre/post EQ switch and level...
Tone shaping and headroom to spare, plus bi-amped (woofer/tweeter) with the "GK Growl" Boost.

Just make sure it's the Mark II
(the light should turn blue when you turn it on).
They had problems with the Mark I and had to have the guts replaced in mine.
I think the original light turned green?

I still have mine and save it for really big gigs,
although my MB500 can pull most indoor gigs at about 50 pounds lighter.
Last time I used it, it filled an outdoor soccer field for "The Star Spangled Banner" without PA support
and didn't even break a sweat...

If you have any specific questions Arkl,
just let me know.

this is a local friend so I've heard it in some big rooms.. I remember being blown away by the sound and as most of you know, being somewhat gravitationally challenged, (NFL guard sized) the 85 lbs doesn't intimidate me all that much.... and I'm glad it has wheels.

thanks for the feedback: I'll check with him as to whether it's a Mark II......

take care
