I tried a Greenboy 15/6 and I thought it sounded good but more lows than what I wanted. I then tried the F215 and was blown away by it. Of course, the price is just too high for me.

Sweet. I have heard good things but never heard one. I have a similar cab, the AudioKinesis Thunderchild.

Cool. At one Seattle GTG we compared one like that to my fEArful 12/6, which was built before greenboy designed crossovers and had one of mine in it. I've heard lots of more recent stock-spec fEARfuls too though. Bottom line: they all sounded really close to the same to me. The mod to tune box frequency down a little fixes Fred's complaint pretty well and my 12/6 was built that way from the start. Hope it works out well for you.

What mod is that? When I first tried the 15/6, I thought it sounded pretty good. But, there was the F215 right next to it. Tried that one and it was more to my tonal goals. The bottom seemed more focused (tighter). If I was ever going to build a 15/6, I'd go for the cube. [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

Add an inch or two to the shelf length and the lower box tuning starts to emulate a sealed cab a little, tightens low bass up right nice. Personally, I really prefer doing the fEARful thing as a "true" 3-way and using a $$$ tweeter, but I'm looking for PA/monitor kind of vibe, not a "bass cab" one. Once the whole thing migrated from DIY to expensive licensed builds I completely lost interest, but getting a Thunderchild cab really killed my GAS in a big way anyhow.

Thanks. Yes, the licensed builds are a bit out of whack. I contacted a local builder about having a Dually built. The base price is $1050. OK, so I wanted two soft style side handles, one recessed top handle, wheels, skid rails, and grill cloth. He came back with a price of about $1500. There was an additional charge of $150 for the plywood. So, I figured the base price only includes two speakers and a neutrik connector. I mean it's basically two speakers in a box. There's no fancy crossover or anything.

I'll tell you what, the difference between this and my Schroeder 412 is night and day. I've been playing Schroeders for close to 8 years now and am used to the mid range clarity........real easy to get a "bark" out of even your E string.........this cab has great tone, nice and even, but I had to mess with things to get the lows to sound like I want them..........I like to get a slightly "pick" sound with fingers.........With the Shroeder I dialed the bass up, treble down, and bumped the mids a little on my GB Streamliner........with this cab I flattened everything and used the knob on the pbass to hit more treble ......... time will tell, but the initial shock in the difference hasn't worn off..........playing 2x12s for 5 years and then 4x12s, well it's been a while since I pushed a 15" woofer..........I'll bet my upright sounds great through the LDS though!! .......

I don't think it's a 12 or 15 thing b/c the 12/6/1 is supposed to sound the same as the 15/6/1. It was designed to get extra lows and the sound of whatever you put in is what comes out. I guess that's a good thing but part of the tone that I like also comes from particular speaker cabs. It's a totally different way to EQ to get to where you want.

On TB, all everyone ever mentions about these cabs is how LOUD they are. I don't really need to be LOUD but I really like to have my tone.

hmmm, well my 4ohm 4x12 1600 watt is much louder than this 8ohm 600 watt cab for sure...........I really like it, the size is good, it reminds me of my first club amp the old Fender BXR 300 15 .... same size, but half the weight!!

I used to be in a band with a guitar player friend that has one of those old Fender BXR combos in his basement. Everyone uses it when they play over there. It really does sound good and he won't sell it. [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]
