Liked mine. Thought it had that Ampeg tone. Good sounding pre-amp in the scope of things....Didn't keep it because it didn't really stand out either.

I always got the impression the SVP was more tube like. The SVP has more tubes maybe?
The SVT IIP was made earlier and some folks prefer them.
I don't know anybody ever kept and consistently played either. I traded my way up to a Alembic F1X before I was happy.

Exactly what I did way back when. I was researching and trying out all the Ampeg pre's I could. My research included "who used what" and what they had to say about them. This research revealed "who" used "something else" for that sound. The SansAmp RBI led the list. When I heard what Geddy Lee was getting with it... I was sold. I've had the original SABDDI, the newer SABDDI, the programmable SABDDI and the rack mount SABDDI. I currently have a SABDDI. As a FOH engineer it's my "go to" bass DI. Well, I've got a SVP Pro on the way. Impulse buy. Couldn't help myself. I think you guys know what I mean!

I've used a Sansamp before and, to be blunt, hated it. Tried it every which way. It's been a loooong time but I've used Ampeg gear as backline many a time and with good results after very little fiddling about. IIRC. Big "if'.

Here's the deal. I've got a some pedals I've been using. Fodera Model 2000 pre. Blue Tube. fDeck Series 3. Radial passive DI. All high quality, easy to use gear. I really can't say enough about the pedal board I have. BUT, I got to scheming about ONE preamp that could take the place of my messy pedal board (that looks like crap on nicer gigs). I guess the fDeck will still have a place in the FX loop of the SVP.

Anyway....Stay tuned! And thanks for chiming in!

And if this Ampeg works out look for some nice pedals on sale here. [smilie=fun_84.gif]

Sort of an interesting sidenote is that, from the little bit of research I've done, TBers (USA) seems to prefer the SVP pro over the SVT IIp. BassChaters (UK) seem to prefer the SVT IIp.

Go figure.

Ya, I think the main thing I have learned since the DudePit days is I need to try for myself. Each his own and such. [smilie=food-smiley-004.gif]

I tried Yamaha PB1, Demeter, SVT IIP, Avalon U5 and Alembic F1X. Just too much to haul when I can use a cigar box size head now.

Agreed. On both accounts.

I'm going to use this strictly as a preamp as I use IEM's most of the time. Other times I use my powered EV Live X 1x12's. Should be no harder to haul than my current pedal board.

If I was going to be using a head it'd be the Streamliner or the Shuttle. Great heads!!

Delivered! [smilie=music-smiley-005.gif]

Off for a bike ride to get a hill workout in. (Trying to stay in shape after getting a stress fracture during the last stages of training for a marathon. DOH!)

Once I get back I'll post some quick impressions.

Not bad. Not bad at all! I like the fact that it adds some grit and dirt but is not what I'd call "overdrive".

No gigs to use it on until next weekend. Stay tuned...

I had one in here for repairs and a few mods last spring. Came out nice and the owner uses it as his daily driver.
