68 Tele Bass - Bridge

Postby ampig » Thu Mar 14, 2013 9:49 am

Mine is all original with a two saddle bridge. I'd like to replace the bridge for intonation purposes. Does anyone know if the bridge mounting screw patterns are the same as a P-bass bridge?

Is it a string thru like this one Howard? If so, I don't think that is going to work.

I think Sadowsky makes some compensated saddles that you could screw in. You might be able to just buy some and bevel them to get some compensation yourself.

Found this thread on TB:

Dude has some wilkinson units, but I could not find any online.

Found this:
Fender DELUXE CHROME BASS BRIDGE #005-8396-000
Genuine Fender USA Deluxe Series bass bridge in chrome finish. This bridge is a direct replacement for USA Deluxe Basses, and is also a bolt-on replacement for string-through two saddle bridges used on Tele bass and 50's P Bass. Replacement allows for more precise intonation adjustment and better tone transfer. Features heavy plate design with stainless steel multi-grooved saddles.

Got one on Ebay for around $40 shipped.

I can see how the Wilkinson is a step in the right direction and would help

Looking at this again, doesn't the 68 have 3 mounting holes like the pic I posted above?

It's got 7 holes. Should be right.

The 5 screws in the pic is confusing. As long as the mounting screws match, and you are stringing through the body, you're good.

Yeah. The screws scare me a little. I'll see when it shows up.

Cool Howard, just watching out for ya. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

What you certainly DO NOT want is 3 mounting screws top loaded! I've seen some nasty pics.

The bridge worked out great. Mounting and through body holes matched up exactly. Makes a world of difference too.
Anybody know the pot and cap values on this bass? I'm gonna swap out the complete control plate.

So the question remains, was the original bridge a three screw or a five screw? Glad it worked out, just curious now.

I once owned the Artist Series Sting Sign. 50ies Precision. I wanted a four saddle bridge too.
Fender Germany suggested the Am. Deluxe Bridge which allowed s-t-body and s-t-bridge.
But Fender Germany has not been able to ship that bridge to my dealer. Finally bad ass celtobass took one with him when he visited me.
It fitted and it worked - but it ruined the appearance IMHO
