Should I?

Should I?

Postby BigDaveOnBass » Wed Jun 19, 2013 11:23 am

Hey fellas. I have a late 90's Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V in translucent teal that I bought new in January 2000 and it is my numero uno. There's a luthier in town that restored my '67 Gibson EB-3 recently. They do pretty good work and are reasonably priced. I am thinking of having some inlays put on the fretboard of the Jazz V, just to personalize the bass. I really don't have any ideas what exactly I want done yet, but was wondering, should I, or should I not, modify the only unmolested bass in my arsenal? I don't have any intentions of ever selling or otherwise getting rid of it. What do you think? [smilie=coz.gif]

If it feels good, do it.

Are you thinking about classic blocks? I always liked pearloid and I think that would really shine with the teal finish. I would also consider having the neck bound in white as well - always thought that was a really nice and classy touch to a Fender bass.

I would totally do it! [smilie=music-smiley-005.gif] [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

I'm not sure exactly what I want to do, but I DO like the look of blocks and binding on the newer Deluxe models. Pearloid blocks would look good with the pearloid pickguard.

If you are not sure, you might try putting stickers on since actual inlay is permanent.

These are pretty cool inlay looking stickers:

I think that says it right there Dave. Your bass. Do what you want. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

Heck, I took a 1 of 23 and modded it to my taste because I had no intentions of selling it and it wasn't working for me as is. No regrets on my part. My bass does what I want now. I'm a happy camper. [smilie=icon_mrgreen.gif]

The stickers are cool because you can change things around if you ever get tired of them. I've put white side dot stickers on all of my Hofners--once installed they seem durable & look pretty good.
