Got My Precision

Postby Mr. Mom » Thu Feb 06, 2014 11:28 am

As some of you may remember, I was GASsing for a MIM P. Well, I got a P-bass. Not MIM. But an '83 Tobacco 'burst with a replacement rosewood board from StewMac. Was in the local MGR and couldn't resist.

Pics later. I'm going to play with my new little friend!

Ok. Ok.

Here's a quick iPhone shot with its sibling.

What's the finish called? Tobacco burst? Fiesta burst? Cherry burst?

EDIT: It's much more red/orange in person.

Cool bass [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

Would be sweet to find a period neck. The profile on most of the early 80's Ps I have played felt awesome - wide top to bottom but thin/shallow front to back.

Hey man...Don't be dissing my Scheff. That's my girl! [smilie=angry-smiley-005.gif] [smilie=cheeky-smiley-025.gif]

That Scheff is the sh*t. It's hard for me to get a bad tone out of it. I shudder to think what it would like in more capable hands.

I really like the neck "profile" of this StewMac neck. 1 5/8" at the nut. Pretty flat radius. Satin finish. The nut is cheap, but it's cut perfectly. Frets seem level. Neck seem straight. My only gripe about the neck are the frets ends. They are all a little rough. But that doesn't bother me. And I can fix that pretty quick if it does get to me. I agree, though, that a period neck would be nice. I'd like a maple neck.

Tone on the bass is...Well, a Precision! This one is quite growly and the tone knob has a very nice taper to it.

All-in-all, after a couple of times handling it, I'm VERY pleased.

Thanks fellas!

Gonz, it's wearing the rounds that were on it when I bought it! They don't sound half bad.

Undecided on string choice. I really like P's with flats but my Scheff has flats. Prolly going with DR flats or nickel rounds.

Also, just out of curiosity, where would one go about obtaining a period neck? IF one were interested in obtaining one, that is. [smilie=cheeky-smiley-025.gif]

Undecided on string choice. If you like flats on the Scheff - go for rounds. Do you like rounds on the Scheff...?
