George Porter Jr & NYC weekend.

Postby jfa5009 » Mon Oct 18, 2010 10:09 am

I like The Funky Meters, I like Art Neville, but I LOVE George Porter Jr. The legend has played with a number of different icons from Paul McCartney, Tori Amos, and Jimmy Buffett...I am going to see him in December in NYC!

What is your thoughts on The Meters bassist?

One of the top revered bassists. As you probably saw, he adorns our front page. Make sure to read the interview there.

GPJ wrote the book. His ability to find the pocket and play to it, while respecting it, is one of my biggest inspirations when I put on a bass.

Catch him while you can. There is a shelf life for all musicians and George is one that every bass player should be in the room to "FEEL". Far and away the most useful influence I've have in my humble career. FUNK GEORGE [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

I've shook his right hand hoping something, SOMETHING would rub off. I'm still waiting, but I'm not overly optimistic at this point. The man is a god.

Nothing like seeing The Man in a tiny club like the Maple Leaf, and then getting to shake his hand. What a super nice man, on top of the staggering talent.

You bet my friend. I'll look forward to it.
Peace GPJ.

I'm sure he meant "not very close". [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

His mother has been having some health complications, stop by if you can peeps. This man is a true gem with many facets. [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]
