My latest gig

Postby TomA » Tue Apr 12, 2011 6:30 pm

I recently auditioned for a local band called Boomers’ Brew (they need a go-to sub to fill in for their very busy regular bass player). Honestly, I went into the audition a bit intimidated because there are some *serious* badass players in the band with big time resumes. But I auditioned well (using my BABE L2000, BTW) and my first gig is this weekend. I’ve had the set list for about a week, and I’ll have just one rehearsal before the gig. Wish me luck!

Thanks guys!

The band does a combination and classic rock and some more contemporary stuff that’s suited for the Baby Boomer crowd (hence the band name). Mostly tried-and-true crowd pleasers. Stuff like Springsteen, Eagles, Beatles, Stones, Elvis Costello (Pump It Up!) etc.

I’m going to park my video camera with the soundman at Sunday’s gig. Hope to have some stuff to post later on.

I checked out the band site. Looks like there's some experienced players in that group. The guitarist was with Joe Cocker and the video of Cocker is interesting. The guitarist looks like he raided SRV's closet. [smilie=grinning-smiley-044.gif]

The band updated the website to include me. The other sub they'll be using is Danny Miranda (Blue Oyster Cult, Meatloaf etc). Looks like I'm running with the big dogs! [smilie=cool-smiley-027.gif]

Thanks, brother! (I mean that literally as that's my big brother Jack). He's a left coaster, like many of you guys here.

As promised, here's video from my first gig with the guys this afternoon.

Excellent work, Tom. Harmonies are really good, and it seems that everybody is giving each other plenty of playing room. Definitely sound like quality musos.

Thanks guys. That was a fun gig; a little different for me though. I had my audition and then that gig with short notice. I hate doing gigs unrehearsed (I never played with that drummer before either). But the crowd and club owner loved us, and I was feeling the love from the band afterwards, so it was all good.
