Flats for my Jerry Jones and Dano

Flats for my Jerry Jones and Dano

Postby joe d » Fri Dec 30, 2011 2:15 pm

Looking to re-string my short scale JJ longhorn and Dano w/ flats...What will fit these basses? I have some Roto 77 flats on one now,and don't really care for the sound...Will TI's fit without wrapping the body of the string around the post? As far as Chromes vs. La Bellas which has the higher tension? What are you using that you like? Any input appreciated..

I use the rotos, the set made for hofners, in flats on my longhorn. Tension is pretty low, they remind me of TIs.

I like the La Bella made for the Hofner, that is what is on my Club bass.

The JJ I recently sold to Steve had short scales TI flats. I don't recall having a problem installing them.

Short scale TIs are a perfect match with the tuners on the JJ. I think they'd be ideal on a Dano shorty too. Really musical strings and more naturally compressed and "sproingier" sounding than roto flats. Plus, the tension is ideal for a short scale too.

The Dano might be a problem, I kinda remember people saying the tuner holes were too small. I don't know that for sure though. You should be good to go on the JJ though.

`

I remember having to drill out the E-string
tuner peg hole on my Dano, and it was not
for TIs. It's just a 'Dano-ism' :-)

`

New basses are red. Used basses are black.

Yeah, I went ahead and did that on the Dano...The JJ seems to handle the strings fine though...
