Postby billyk » Mon Apr 09, 2012 7:23 am

My Ibanez has it's strap button on the back of the neck where it joins the body and when I put a strap on the bass rolls forward. So the front to back balance is off . I am not putting any new holes in it tilo I hear from peoples expirences with strap buttons on acoustic bass's.

Why don't you just get an acoustic bass strap?

I've got the same problem with my acoustic Ibanez
(first position is a reach when standing)
but have never thought of the different strap solution.

Thanks Pete!

Upper fret access doesn't mean shinola to me, and especially on an
acoustic, so I put my neck joint buttons facing forward and slightly
downward [downward retains the strap with neck at playing angle].

Frankly, flat top full body ABGs are ergonomic nightmares that don't
really deliver ... not like an acoustic geetar anywho ... ] so I avoid
them .... even the ones I own :-/

My Washburn AB20 is a pretty good compromise between a thinline
and a full body. It's a sorta "half depth" acoustic, with non-nightmare
ergonomics [still not hugely player-friendly, tho]. I also keep a Mike
Kelly full body around .... cuz it's cheap and it reminds me to never
spend REAL money on a full body AGB [which it happens to be].

--------------------

The Takamine B10 in my avatar is huge, has a 34" scale and fits into a
cello case with no room to spare. But it's not a flat top and is actually
a 34" upright. Altho I did put strap buttons on it, they are located to
let it hang in upright position. Being a true URB, rather than a flat top
geetar wearing fat strings, it's voice is worth the effort of playing it.
