5 Pound Rob Allen

5 Pound Rob Allen

Got this freakishly-light semi-hollow Rob Allen Solid 4 (ironically named) recently, from someone on TB. Advertised as possibly sub-5 lbs. I was deceived, as it weighs in at 5 even. ;)

It's about 10 tons of tone, however!

That is awesome. I love my Allen so much, I am having him make me a fretless M5 to match my fretted. [smilie=fun_84.gif]

And I thought my 7 lb Lakland was light. What's the scale on this thing? And does it have any controls?

It's 34" but it feels short-scale, due to the way the body is laid out. It's volume and tone, controls on the bridge.

Thanks all! What's crazy to me is that this is one of those basses that has had several owners on TB....and someone had it custom-built and let it go, at a big loss I'm sure. So far, I'm finding it pretty dang cool. I can't think of anything that would improve it.

I want one!!!! Well first I've got to start walking again (three more weeks in a cast) and then I need a band to play it in.

Does this one have a piezo in the bridge? Seems like a lot of those basses don't have a regular pickup.

No, this model was designed with the single-coil only. He's building them with 2 single coils too now.

Congrats Mike! That is a lovely bass and I appreciate you snagging it before I did, I already have two RAs.
