Tried this fretless ABG the other day

Postby Chucko » Sat Mar 08, 2008 12:18 am

A friend at work got the fretless acoustic bass guitar in the link below on loan from luthier Orien MacDonald:

http://www.model-o.com/bass.html

I had a chance to play it. WOW! Strung with flats, it sounds like an upright, nice full round sound. It's so easy to play, it just makes me want to groove. I haven't tried it plugged in, just acoustic. It kills unplugged! This may be the ABG I've been dreaming of all my life.

This is a fully handmade instrument at a very reasonable price. My friend is seriously considering commissioning one. I'm wondering where I can scare up $2500 to get one of my own.

Anyone else dealt with this luthier?

Wow, that's beautiful! And he only wants $2500 for it? That's very reasonable!

Yowza!

The Tak B10 in my current avatar is a bit more than that, brand new [street, not list], which is why you don't see many of them, and it's a factory-made bass. I felt lucky to find mine as a used bass since they are very scarce. You better scare up that $2500 before the price takes a leap when the builder studies the market a bit more closely .....

These here are several $K:

New basses are red. Used basses are black.

Looks like I'm going to take this puppy home. [smilie=music-smiley-005.gif] And the price will be a lot less than $2500! [smilie=grinning-smiley-044.gif]

Next order of business is to find The Right Set Of Strings.
