Pickguard Change Opinions

Postby Ben Esparza » Wed Sep 30, 2009 1:56 pm

Hello y'all,

I posted this on the EB Forum and I thought I'd inquire from the BABP brethren. This is now my bass:

Image

Came from Scott "Armybass" Cutrer who sold it to my nephew who then sold it to me. I bought a tort guard from Guitar Parts Resource and, aside from there being construction issues with the guard, I just don't like tort on a translucent finish. To me tort looks better on an opaque finish.

I'm considering white perloid and getting it directly from EB. I would like opinions, and pictures, regarding the combinations below of hardware and pickup covers:

1. White perloid with a black pickup cover, black screws and black knobs?

2. White perloid with a black pickup cover, chrome screws and chrome knobs?

3. White perloid with a white pickup cover, black screws and black knobs?

4. White perloid with a white pickup cover, chrome screws and chrome knobs?

My vote is 4) [smilie=cool-smiley-027.gif]

Knobs and screws are available via EB customer service. They don't sell pup covers but a new white pup should be available (you'd have to hand over your existing one).

Have you considered a Black Pearloid pickguard with chrome screws and chrome knobs? Or just change to chrome screws and knobs and leave the pickguard and pickup cover as is.

I like the white pearloid with white pickup covers but I wouldn't want to exchange pickups if I liked the tone of the one that's in it.

I hate to sound like a broke record but I would consider cream pearl as well. My bass is green with maple neck and the cream seems warmer but still looks white.

That would look nice. I wonder if cream after market pickup covers are available.

Unfortunately, Ernie Ball don't have them available. I checked with customer service during the summer and they confirmed cream covers aren't available through them.

I'd leave it. I dig the black better than the other options.

True, they don't like doing anything like that but maybe an another company might make them. Not sure if the covers on EBMM pickups can easily taken off or if they're part of the actual pickup.
