Having trouble keeping up with all the new NAMM models?

Postby aussiemark » Wed Jan 13, 2010 4:39 pm

Apparently there are 10 new basses for NAMM. Here's the ones that have been leaked on the EBMM forum so far -

1. Big Al 4H
2. Big Al 5 H
3. Big Al 5 SSS
4. Stingray 4 Classic (mutes, old logo, 2 band EQ, coral pink, sonic blue etc)
5. Stingray 5 Classic (same as above but as fiver with Stingray 4 toilet seat pickguard)
6. Sterling 4 Classic (same as Stingray 4 Classic but with Sterling size body and neck)

I called my Music Man dealer this afternoon after the Classic SR5 was introduced. Told them to order me one finished in Classic White with a Rosewood Fretboard and Tortoise Shell pickguard. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

I expect to buy a Big Al 5H, just waiting for the pricing to be announced tomorrow at NAMM. [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

Gonna be a anxious 5-6 months.

I've been on the EBMM forum daily but am still having a hard time keeping up... my head is spinning with all these amazing new models.

I thought I wanted another Bongo 5 to replace the one I sold, then the Big Al 5 showed up a couple of days ago, and now the Classic Collection SR5... the mutes and string through body on the SR5 have completely bowled me over.

I'm guessing there will be a Sterling 5 Classic and also a couple of new Bongos... anyone else have any thoughts?

Cheers

Boy, I'm having trouble keeping up, much less guessing what's next! The Classic Sterling is tugging at me but I'll wait to see the price and specs.

I would dearly love to see some new Bongo offerings but I'm not holding my breath.

Same here.

But I'm concentrating on the Classic SR4's at the moment. I'm lining up one. Question is whether I can afford two [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]

Sterling playing a Big Al equipped with the "GameChanger". Note the switch like a LP which ctoggles the computer selected switching options.

The classic SR% has a different pup housing and you can't anchor your thumb on it. TIm and I tried.

Will try to get shots today but web access is wonky here.

Heard mention of $1800 or so pricewise on the classics. They will be spendy.

I gotta say...................EBMM has really been on the G.A.S. (pun intended) the past couple of years. They have really won me over! [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif] They have the best fit and finish right out of the box, and their new models just keep coming! [smilie=smilie_kopf.gif]

Haven't kept up on all the classics details but the fretwire is much smaller kind reminds me of Lakland frets..

Side by side a Big Al on the left and a classic on the right.

Maple to see the tint of the laquer.

Silverburst SBMM Color that will only be available at GC

I got some list prices from a friend of mine who is a dealer. The Stingray and Sterling Classics list for $2570 and the Stingray 5 Classic lists for $2820. Assuming they sell for 30% off list like Musicians Friend has the regular Music Man instruments priced, we're looking at $1799 and $1974 street prices. I was interested in a Stingray 4 Classic but that's kind of a lot.

I'm pretty excited about these Classics since I've been begging for gloss necks for years. So far the only finish I'd like would be sonic blue/maple board/tort guard/white pickup.
But they're saying more finish choices will rotate in later in the year, so I might wait to see what's next before jumping.
