help with what to do with an old stingray

Guys, sorry...new login as my old one got blown up...extreme on dudepit, P-bass or bust here when BABP first came online. I've got an old Stingray I got from Jack (bovinehost) back in the day. Great bass and really fun, but the truss rod cracked the one-piece maple neck between the nut and the first fret. I had it professionally repaired probably 5-6 years ago and it quickly cracked again, so it's not likely to be a fixable issue.

The bass still plays okay, but the action has to be compromised...starts to fret out up high the way I have it now, but still sounds good and plays alright. Anyway, I'm thinking the bass (whether sold assembled or parted out) must be worth something to somebody...what's the best way to proceed with finding a new home for this?

I was told it was a '78 when I bought it, but when I had it apart 5 years ago I think it might actually date to '79 or '80. It's a 2-band old school 'ray...black with one-piece maple neck. The bridge has the melted foam mutes. Everything's original, but I do have an extra pickguard and I don't know about the case other than it fits a 'ray and isn't new. What sort of value should I expect to get out of this? If it doesn't amount to much maybe I'm better off keeping it and finding a graphite Moses neck or something...

Actually, this is the instrument off of Jack's homepage:

...and whether I got it directly from Jack or not I don't know...those days in the dudepit saw instruments flying around all over the place. Jack and I both had our hands on quite a few of the same instruments for a while there. And, darn, I'm mad again because this was the sweetest feeling neck. I forgot about that as I try to keep it buried in the closet so I don't have to remember the pain.

I'd call Michael Dolan before parting it out.

I'd have it turned into either a rosewood board, or a maple board...in other words it would be a two piece.

IMO the neck is the heart of the Bass. I'd now go for a Status graphite to give it a new life and the Cutlass vibe [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]

That's probably not a bad idea to essentially cap the fingerboard with either rosewood or maple. Maybe that's what I'll eventually try doing with this thing. It's a fun instrument and the shape and feel of the back of the neck is amazing.

Well, I'm looking for funds towards a Chapman Stick...anyone want this 'ray as a project or for parts? Lemme know...extreme517@netzero.net

If you listed that at the Ernie Ball forum you would sell it in a heartbeat.
