Then you ain't lived til you play Acouticores on a piezo FL bass. I get high just telling you that :-)

agreed; acousticores on a fretless ABG is about as uprighty tone you can get without buying a minivan....magical tone!

and I liked Pino's playing on everything back in those days. seemed like he was on everyone's recordings with that signature fretless back then... good stuff.

I've never tried Acousticores but I use Dogal "Jaco" flatwounds on my Micheal Kelly fretless Dragonfly 5. It sounds so much like an upright I end up talking to a bunch of doghouse guys every time I take it somewhere. Dogal strings are from Italy and they've been making strings since Moby Dick was a minnow (waaaay before there were electric instruments). They're expensive but you can get them in the US. I know where. I have a feeling they are much like TIs. The MK Dragonfly has a special designed Fishman pup that really sounds like nothing else.

I just ordered Jaco 45's (up to 130, Ithink) for a Dragonfly fretless 5 string. Which gauge do you use or recommend?

3 questiones ...

So WHERE IS this "where" in your "I know where" ?

Is the Dragonfly PU different than the Firefly PU ?
The PU in my FF FL seems quite ordinary ....

Are these Dogal strings flatwound versions of the
Acouticores? Meaning, do they have nylon cores
instead of metal ?

----------------------

My " in youse dreams, Dood ... " strings would be
flatwound, magnetic-sensitive windings, over a
nylon filament core ... so I can enjoy the voice
of Acousticores, but deploy them on a hybrid ax,
that is, having combined magnetic and acoustic
PU systems. I have several such axen, and I also
have Acousticores on a coupla piezo-only axen.
No point in "wasting" the mag PUs on the hybrids
by stringing them with acoustic-only strings such
as the Acousticores.

So, maaaayyybeee you're gonna tell me that my
dream strings DO exist ? Huh, maybe huh ? ? :-)
