I gotta get my digital camera working again so I can take a pic of the Death Star...er, "KC" and do a compare/contrast with the pic of Chef's lil' monster.

My switches are in the same position as those in Chef's pic, BTW.

I just got in a used but nice Canon digital camera. When I figure out it's particular capabilities and quirks I'll start snappin' and postin'. [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

Okay, I ended up not using the Canon camera I just got, so please excuse the quality of the pics (and the skills of the picture taker. [smilie=tosser.gif] )

Behold the Death Star, "KC"!! He's lookin' real fine sporting a set of Nordstrand Dual Coil 5 pickups, a switch per pickup for series/single-coil/parallel operation, the new Nordstrand 3-band preamp, and Ken Smith strings.

Here's a close-up of the controls; I'm still waiting on the stack knobs I ordered from Bayou Cables.

I'll try to take better pics with a better camera sometime in the future, but this should at least prove that I really do have this bass. [smilie=cheeky-smiley-025.gif]

I'm glad that my ol' silver wonder is working out good for you, Harry.

Meanwhile, I still have another 55-01 in my possession. It's the twin of the one Mr. Baker has (TTSB, maple fretboard), and I scored another set of Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups for it. This particular set is wired parallel (KC has series-wound DCs). The preamp I'm thinking of getting is the ACG filter-based version that John East had a hand in developing. I want to do something different with "Sonny" than what I did with "KC", and I will be consulting with the boys at Nordstrand about what to do.

I'm keeping my eye out for another 55-01 for further modding madness, but I'm not looking to buy in the immediate future. I'll wait until after the new year starts.

Very nice Joe! You're gonna have to bring that "bad boy" over... [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

BTW: Where are you getting the Nordie DC pickups from??? PM me please.

I just know I'll be ostracized for this...

I'm actually pretty satisfied my my small 5 string collection.

I've got "Cut Through Anything" covered by the L-2500, though it may get a re-pre in the future. Bongo covers sheer 18v power and it's got piezos. And the Lakie has single coil tone down to a monstrous science. All have great action, all play well.

So GAS is pretty low right now. So far. Tail end of January might be trouble and I may have to sell a kid or a lung. Wait! I know! I'll sell my body! Yeah - that's it.

Here's the Lakie:
