Hey Pete, I just remembered you already have a custom DS bass. Oh well.

I played that thing a few years back. That config of dual D/S and VT/VT is a thing of beauty and a very tempting idea.

Still the whole Fred Darkstar, Chi-Sonic thing bugs me.

That would not be be show stopper Jack, but I believe Lakland is no longer utilizing Fred's DS's IIRC.

Things might've changed since I last heard but I thought that Chi-sonics were standard but you could still get Darkstars as a special order on Lakland basses.

I've always wanted a slightly Sheehan-esque Lakland P-Bass:

-Maple board with black block inlays/binding
-Mahogany body (just to be different) in dark burst, ala a Gibby T-bird's finish
-Chi-Sonic or Darkstar in the neck position at the end of the fingerboard
-Fralin P pickup in the usual spot
-Black or white parchment pickguard
-two volume controls, no tone controls (or stacked v/t as an option)
-series/parallel switch for pickups, or s/p on a push/pull knob

This same bass with an ebony fingerboard and pearloid blocks with black pickguard and black painte headstock would also look kiiler, IMO.

Oh? I have'nt been paying much attention. Was there some drama?

That would not be be show stopper Jack, but I believe Lakland is using their Chi-sonics exclusively for their humbucker configs IIRC.

Then I'm way off base, thought Darkstars were single coils.

Whoop, you're right Jack, it's been awhile, they are single coil. [smilie=fun_84.gif]

I'll edit my post.

Wow, Andrew's got an idea here. Good news if Fred's pups are an option [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]

The Lakland pricelist no longer has Darkstars listed as an option, but they do have " Non-Lakland pickups on any two pickup bass" listed with "CALL" as the price, so it seems like DS's can be done.

Thanks, it's not an idea for a bass that's all that exotic, but it hasn't been done (at least by Lakland) yet.

These is the type of discussion that initiates a great bass. [smilie=icon_mrgreen.gif]

Fred called when we were in Anaheim. We ddn't get to hook up, but I am waiting for him to call back to see if I can drag him into this.

maple neck black blocks w/ black matching headstock
black hardware
Hipshot d-tuner option
choice of body finish

I know I'd want one [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]
