Single coil mode readily cures that phat low end.
I mostly use only amps with wide ranging para eq, so trimming that 5o-60hz range is easy.

Alternatively: use the bridge pickup in dual coil, neck pickup in single coil. It'd be neat if there were individual coil taps.

I thought the Barts were too expansive on the low end - a little woofy and difficult for me to control. I spent about 10 minutes with one so I wouldn't say I spent any time figuring it out. I always wanted to try one with hammond pickups - my Starfire was too woofy before I put in the Dark Stars and now it's the tits.

Well guess who happened to call yesterday? I think we'll be seeing more of Fred around here soon. You know I'm a fan, and that thought has crossed my mind on this bass Steve, but to soon to tell if I will go there.

I decided to go there last night. Elderly Instruments had this Dark Star modded Lakland HB for $900. Wasn't sure if I wanted to go there straight-away, or if I wanted to try one with the Barts first. But for that price with the DS's, I figured I couldn't go wrong, and could probably flip/trade for a Bart or ChiSonic loaded hollow if it isn't to my liking, so it's coming to Cali. STOKED! Nice score! [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif] I've been using my double DS P for the original project. These pups just kill. Where the hell is Fred anyway? [smilie=coz.gif]

Personally I like the Barts best. DarkStars are so hot and bright it would over whelm the woody-thumpy vintage tone I am lookin for. It would sound great but I don't want a hollowbody to sound too electric if you know what I mean.

I found a flexible EQ to be critical to me using this bass. I need to dial in/out the subtle nuances. I don't carry this bass if I can't use my own dialed in rig.

I get what you mean Pete. I am leaving it as is. With the flats that it came with, it's just got a great woody thump that's enhanced through the flip top. I gots nuthin' to change here. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

Wonder what it will sound like through the SVT? Guess I'll find out soon. [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]

That bass and an SVT will set in the mix like a fat man setting in an economy airline seat. [smilie=music-smiley-005.gif]

Be sure and try a piece of foam right off the edge of the bridge. Amazing how tight it can get under a band. Tigh-eeeeet!

Well, that was my concern, and so I hit the forums for a few days after spotting it to read what others were saying and mull it over. Looks like my concern cost me that bass. I went to the Elderly website this morning to check the status of my order and to see if it had shipped, and it said "Order-Cancelled."

I'm like [smilie=coz.gif] [smilie=stfu.gif] [smilie=smilie_kopf.gif] [smilie=tosser.gif] [smilie=bs.gif] [smilie=fun_84.gif]

Call them up, apparently someone else had had hit the button and placed their order about an hour before me, and their website hadn't updated. I'm going to consider it a blessing in disguise and head off to the "Wanted" forum to see if I can scare one up in CAR w/ Barts...

Not disappointed for long, I found another one more in line with what I was looking for to begin with, so all's well that ends well [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif] [smilie=food-smiley-004.gif]

I sold Nola his hollowbody - my virgin sale on line. I kind of feel responsible... I think I sent about 10 pounds of packing peanuts with it, as well as a sweet gig bag - the likes I have not seen since.

Cheers,

Ah....and both have been my main gigging tools for a coupla years now. Thanks again. It was a great deal and a great packing job. The gig bag is smokey and grubby now...all the reflectors are dimmer so I don't glow in the dark as much. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]
I always wondered if going to the factory and hanging around while they set it up had anything to do with it being such a great bass. Did you/they hand pic it or somethin?

I love the smell of packing peanuts in the afternoon! Fresh out of the box...
