I've come full circle with this Duck...

Postby DaveyG67 » Wed Jul 29, 2009 8:44 pm

In the 3 years & 7 months I've owned my USA Duck Dunn P-bass, there has been much disappointment & frustration... from late delivery time, goof on the order, poor fit & finish, sending it back, more goofs, to not diggin' the original Fralin pickup, then routing for a Darkstar & that not working for me, I have FINALLY got this bass KILLIN' now & being my #1 go to player. My intent here is not to bash Lakland, but to express how persistency pays off... all along the saving grace of this particular bass was the neck... absolutely amazing, almost like it was custom built for my left hand. I guess that's why I refused to give up on it, knowing (or hoping) that if I found the right pickup (a used Fender '62 RI from eBay), this bass would be special, and now it finally is.... whew, I had to let that out! I always thought the Fralins that shipped with the Ducks missed the boat on his tone completely, and I'm a total Lindy fanboy (have a set in my jazz 5 that you'll have to pry from my dead fingers). Glad to hear it's making the sound you want, any chance of some recordings?

I can corroborate this. I have been lucky enough to play this bad boy, that neck is like butter. My skyline duck was pretty nice too.

Congrats man! [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

I had a MIM P with a 62 RI in it, and it was a really great sounding bass. I'm a fan of the 62 RI pickup.

My favorite Lindy P pup is a 10% over wound. Glad you're diggin' that beauty [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]

Yeah Pete, I know you swear by the 10% overwound Fralins, but not sure what type of Fralin came stock w/my Duck... it was a bit too tinny sounding in the the upper mids, & lacking in the bottom end... [smilie=coz.gif]

That's why I like em' over wound [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]
I wonder how that would compare to the 62 RI? Ehhhh, you got it there, leave it alone!
