Suffering brain-fade, can I tap your memories...

Hi there, I was planning to check out a bass pre-amp pedal I say reviewed in some magazine a while back but I just can't for the life of me remember which one it was. [smilie=coz.gif] It's a bit of a specialist one in a way so I can't just say, "Whatever... I'll just look at some other pedal..." (or can I?). I wondered whether the BABP collective memory could help. Thanks.

Anyway, details... as I recall it was basically a preamp pedal but its USP was that it could also double as a 80? 100? watt amp in extremis. I was thinking that a pedal like that might not only be useful for sound sculpting live but act as a pretty handy back-up plan should my amp ever go to the great repair shop in the sky mid gig. At least you could get to the end of the gig (even if at reduced volume and sound quality). For some reason I thought that it might have been in the Radial Tonebone range but a recent look through their catalogue didn't throw up anything that seemed to fit that bill - certainly not the additional power output stage idea.

Of course, there are so many boutique and semi-boutique pedal makers out there it could conceivably have been ANYONE. Does a pedal like that, with those sort of features ring a bell with anyone? I just reckon it could be a really good bit of peace of mind to be able to chuck in the gig bag. Many thanks for your help guys!

Electro Harmonix make a couple of pedals that are small power amps. Maybe that's what you are thinking of? One of them is 20 watts and I think they recently released a bigger version.
