Turbo Tuner ST_200?

Turbo Tuner ST_200?

Postby nolabass » Thu Apr 19, 2012 11:40 pm

Was looking into a Peterson tuner because my current guitar player suffers from perfect pitch. LOL....but honestly, he is always in better than average tune which has me paying more attention and I could stand a better tuner than the Boss TU......or I'm asking, do I need a better tuner? I'll say one thing the demo is convincing. The Turbo is surprisingly fast. I do get a little aggravated waiting for the Boss to pick up my B or G string. I guess because I use old strings. [smilie=coz.gif] Anybody have feedback or experience?

I have seen that video before and was quite impressed with the speed of the Turbo Tuner. I have a Peterson Flip and it's extremely accurate but it is a little slow at picking up the lower strings. When I strike my low B it may display an E but the strobe is still dialing in the B, I can tune my string with the E displaying but just watching the strobe. When the B finally does show up, it's in tune or if the tuner is speedy, I'm still in the process of tuning the string. So, long story short, I believe the Peterson is picking up the frequency but the display itself cannot keep up with the speed.

I would love to get one of those Turbo Tuners.

Have you tried hitting the harmonic at the 12th with the Peterson? I find that it can track quicker when I'm in a hurry. Pete, I really dig my Strobostomp, the Turbo looks interesting, but I'd be more concerned with how visible the red readout is outdoors, especially the circling calibration.

I use the turbo and have not had any problems outdoors. Don't miss my peterson or all the pedalboard space it took up either.

I'm a Peterson fan boy having grown up with strobe tuners since I was in grade school, so I naturally lean in that direction.

I had a chance to try out a Turbo Tuner and it was fast. The quickness is because quite simply LED's are much faster than LCD's. Like Harleyyy, I use the 12th fret harmonic on the B and sometimes E strings just to get the tuners attention then hit the open string. It works.

The only issue I had, and it's a "me" thing not a flaw with the Turbo Tuner, was noting a definitive stop point. I can get anal about tuning and if I don't have something more definitive like green LED's (à la BOSS TU-2's & TU-3's, Korg Pitchblacks, or multiple strobe patterns) telling me DONE, I can keep tuning or wondering if I am in tune as I could be. I also didn't like the power jack location. Not a deal breaker, just a personal preference.

Good tuner.

The side mounted jacks nearly defeats the smaller form factor on a pedalboard doesn't it? Not an issue for Pete, as he doesn't use one.

Ya....good points all round. I'm mainly looking at price truthfully. Can't justify $200 right now but $130 seems doable for some reason.

I've found for me, a tuner on the pedal board is a waste of space. I tune up when I get to a gig and my basses seem to stay there.

Whether it needs it or not. lol

I have some basses that stay in tune for a LONG time (provided I don't put them in a gig bag for transport).

I have a turbo tuner, I really like it a lot. No issues picking up that low B, which is normally the issue for me. I have not played any daytime/outdoor shows with it yet.
I also have my peterson iPhone app tuner as a backup. Works great too, I like to be in tune and I use a bag most of the time so I need a good tuner :)

Didn't I sell you a Strobostomp?

Yeah, but I had issues with the screen on that. I assumed it would be as nice to look as the app version. The clip on version has a nice screen. I had a long talk with them at NAMM about that. Cool guys, they hooked me up with an extra 1/4" to 1/8" adapter for silent tuning.
