Wanna Try Something Cool?

Postby GonzoBass » Thu Aug 30, 2007 2:01 am

Stumbled across this tonight,
and I'm not sure how this will translate,
but if you get it,
you'll get it...

-Play in C major a bit.
(Just up and down the scale or whatever,
enough to get your ears in C major's happy soundscape)
and end on a C whole note or C major triad (1-3-8 works well).

-Now fade in a rumbling an open E with 16ths or 32nds...

Do you hear that?
Ominous, like distant thunder?

Eh...
Just thought I'd share.
Hope it works for you.

[Golem slams out something deep and atonal],
don't you run under no tree .... "

Of coarst, I don't actually have an open-E, but WTF I'm winging and faking everything else anywaze. Got no 32nd notes either. It's a 21 fret neck.

New basses are red. Used basses are black.

Golem, I saw some 32nd notes on the local craigslist a few weeks back. I think they were fairly inexpensive, prolly a low tempo tho...the seller did'nt say.
But if you are still running without them, I can pick them up if you cover the shipping.

Lemmie know.

I've heard that you can get those 32nd notes cheaper with a bulk discount, but the really nice clean ones tend to freak geetards out and give them inferiority complexes. :smokin

Gonzo, I tried this at a jam tonight. I added an 8-7-8 then back to the 1 while keeping up the 32nds.
thanks!

Of coarst, I don't actually have an open-E, but WTF I'm winging and faking everything else anywaze. Got no 32nd notes either. It's a 21 fret neck.

Reporting Results of Field Testing:

Actually, this does work. My low string is a D [DGCF]. Playing in C, D might be weird for a sustained finish, altho I spoze it could resolve down to final clean C. But, since the word "thunder" [in Pennies from Heaven] opens into the ii of a I-ii-V, D is cool. But unlike a finish, being in mid-verse it just goes by so quickly that I'll prolly just stick with my atonal slammo. I like the way the slammo is a good excuse to jar the senses of an audience lulled into inattention by the insipid innanity of "Pennies from Heaven" >:-]

BTW, that I-ii-V is just my best recollection by replaying it in my mind. I don't really remember that stuff, I just play it. Also, I doubt that I'm playing real 32nd notes. Prolly 16ths, and only 8 of those fit before the next change [ "... Dohnchew Runnun DErrrr Nohhh TreEEE ... ... ... cuzzz therl beee penneez from ..." etcetcetc, ad nauseum, plus a coupla false endings with doodle-di-doodle-di-doo, plinkety-plinkety-plinkety stuff].

Rating: Gonzo is an observant meta-genius, who really must have better things to do than slacking along in C-major.

New basses are red. Used basses are black.

Fancy schmancy, but it still can't compete
with a good hard kick to the reverb tank.

Perhaps you could be the originator of a
new chart symbol indicating "kick reverb".
It would make us reverb kickers feel a bit
more culturally elevated and respectable.
