"Cover Me" by Springsteen?

Steve Lawson and Gonzo can get you thinking out of the box right here.

"Cover Me" by Springsteen?

Postby Lieutenant Dan » Wed Apr 23, 2008 10:03 am

Hi Guys,

Gonzo, you said if I needed a hand with these songs LOL..here I am.

I got a rehearsal cd with guitars drums and vox only from the guys, which is awesome...but I'm just having trouble with this one during the verses. Bumpbadada BUM bum, bumpbadada BUM bum part. The BUM is a D (as the band plays it), but I can't some the bumpbababa part...just been doing that on open A and it's passable, but not sure if it's correct? Cool with the rest so far.

Here's how I hear the verse:

BBB (triplet) B D- A-
BBB B D- A-
BBB B D- A-
BBB B D- A-

BBB B D- B-
BBB B D- B-

BBB B D- A-
BBB B D- A-

and then on to the chorus...

I'd catch the B at the 7th fret on my E string
the D at my 5th fret A string
and the A at my 5th fret E string.

You could do this in an open position,
but ringing open strings are harder to control.

I hope this helps!

Oh man, don't test my memory like that. I last played that in a band somewhere around 1984.

Thanks Gonzo! I just tried it on my beater here at work and it sounds right to me...plus with your way, I can transpose it easily if that's not the right key we do it in. [smilie=music-smiley-005.gif]

If they're changing up, I sure hope they are letting you know which tunes and what keys. [smilie=coz.gif]

Hi Pete [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

Happily, the singer gave me a CD with the band playing all their songs (or at least 22 of them) that they do, and so I'm able to learn them how they play them. Makes a GREAT practice aid! I only got the cd Tuesday, so I had Tues night and Weds night to sort things out....I told the singer not to expect miracles in two days. LOL. He said don't even worry about it.

Cool!
The recording I found lines up with your "The BUM is a D" theory,
so I figured the original's in B.

Sweetness, thanks Gonzo. I haven't found much stuff done in B...don't you love my technical terms for music (BUM)? LOL

The stuff this band does is covers of mostly 70's material with some odds and ends....here are some of them:

Proud Mary
Who'll Stop The Rain?
Listen To The Music (I get lost on this one)
Two Tickets To Paradise
Mustang Sally
My Girl
Ticket to Ride
Late in the Evening (that slow, Clapton tune that's like a lullabye?)
Gimme Three Steps
Down on the Corner (they seem to like CCR, lol)
A couple of blues things

There's about 10 more that I can't recall right now...sinus headache is kicking my ass.

[smilie=icon_idea.gif] This one was transcribed in the November 2007 issue of BP
(the one with Jaco on the cover).
