"For your love" [title]

I thought two different songs couldn't be published under the same title ?

I realize it takes only a tiny change, such as "A song of love" vs "Song of love", but what about the YardBirds "For your love" and the Peaches & Herb [Temptations, Stevie Wonder, etc etc etc] "For your love" ? Two seperate different songs sharing one title ?

Is this a unique flukey thing ? Any special details anyone can offer, like they both went thru east and west coast copyright offices at exactly the same minute or something ???

How about "Rain" - The Beatles, Kiss, Madonna, Foreigner, Ian Hunter, Dragon. I'm sure there are more.

"The Boys Are Back in Town" comes to mind, Thin Lizzy and I think, The Busboys?

There are actually two DIFFERENT SONGs by that title ? Thaz weird. I can see common ideas expressed in one word or a very short cliched phrase, like "Rain" or "For your love" as likely to come to mind independently to different writers at different times, but "The Boys Are Back in Town" ? That just seems like a gross violation of the rules of probability. Not that there's a squad of Probability Police rounding up flagrant violators :-)

Song/music titles are not copyright-able. It is the combination of words and melody that gets copyrighted.

I do some church worship-leading and am often on the ccli.com website. It is a clearing house for Christian music copyright permissions. Often when I look up a song title, I'll get sometimes up to 10 or more songs returned. They all have the same title and they all are properly copyrighted.
