You are a busy man Gonzo. How much gig promotion do you do for the different groups/gigs you do? I am guessing it depends on the gig?

I'll add that it's also nice to see good musicians who are good folks playing a lot.

Kind of gives me faith in humanity. You know....Like Pope Francis.

...and that's just my night shift schedule, Tim.
I also have two in college and one in fifth grade right now
and all that implies.
[smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]
We just recently got my older daughter her own car,
which seriously cut down my chauffeur mile/hours.
That's helped a lot!

My weekly regulars (Jazz x2) are pretty well established,
so they're almost on auto-pilot.
For example:
I've been at Café Pesto over five years now,
so there is a permanent poster in the window
("Jazz x2 every Sunday" or something like that),
then I post a weekly digital flyer on Facebook as a reminder
and it usually gets a couple likes...
[smilie=confused-smiley-013.gif]

Same goes for the Hilo Burger Joint.-
Permanent poster and digital Facebook reminder.

However, the more "showcase" bands that I personally put together (Jazz Odyssey) I promote a bit more-

I'll do artwork for actual hardcopy paper posters
(both 11x17 and 8.5x11 which get hung at the club a week prior to catch the weekend-before-my-gig crowd),
smaller 4-up handout sized
(which I distribute to band members and carry everywhere for the same week),
then I also make a digital version as well that I'll post on several Facebook pages;
My personal page, tagging the current band members
The club's page
Local entertainment listing pages such as-
"Hilo Today and Tonight", "Hilo Happenings", "Puna Happenings",
"The Hilo Hep Cats" swing dancer's page, etc.

I might also create a Facebook "event page" to send invites to local folks only
(it takes a bit of time to sort through a list of nearly 850 "friends"
but I hate getting repeatedly invited to out of state gigs by someone who just clicked "send to everyone").

If I am a one-off hired sideman,
I feel the bulk of promotion is the artist's responsibility
but I'll still work the Facebook pages with a digital copy of their flyer if they can provide one.
...or I have been known to create one for the right situation.

Here again though,
I've been backing Wendell Ing with "The Ing Crowd" at Hilo Town Tavern on first and third Thursdays for...
oh, around eight years or so?
[smilie=coz.gif]
I know we've been there through three sets of management and a couple venue name changes.
[smilie=grinning-smiley-044.gif]
I usually just change the date on the digital flyer
and a Facebook post will do for that gig.

Jeff Gaeth and "The Jeff Gaeth Quartet" has two regulars a month
(first and second Saturdays at different venues)
but he does his own paper flyers for hanging at the club
and sends me a digital copy to post.

Lou Ann Gurney and "Jazz Mele" has two regulars a month
but she's not a Facebook person
so she does the paper flyers and has an e-mail list,
while I do a basic digital Facebook post for her.

Other than that?
Hilo's a fairly small town,
we kinda know each other here
and it's just a lot of word-of-mouth.
