For the next two weeks starting this Monday...

Postby Mr. Mom » Fri Nov 06, 2015 5:34 am

...I'll be like Gonz. (But without the talent! [smilie=fun_84.gif] )

11 gigs in two weeks. Weird, but everything is hitting at once. I've got a couple of elementary school shows with a friend of mine, a bunch of cocktail-hour-jazz type things with a pianist I work with, and some church gigs.

PLUS, there's some unpaid stuff in there: community chamber orchestra rehearsals and ska/rock steady "startup group" rehearsal. The Wife'll be in charge of evenings dogs walks!

And, almost all of the paid gigs are on upright! Which is cool as sh*t. And somewhat surprising as I'm quite the mediocre upright player. AND, it comes at a great time because, as some of you might remember, I quit my main gig about two months ago and did my last regular gig with them last month. (I'll still sub for them.)

December ain't too bad, neither. Only a handful of gigs, but most of them pay real well. Xmas parties, NYE. Plus I've got the community chamber orchestra performances twice a week during the day. Side note on the orchestra: The other bass player is an older, retired music teacher/bass player. He just comes in and reads down the music and sounds waayyy better than I do (after I've been to most of the rehearsals and have shedded the music at home). But he shows me some cool stuff...Bowings, fingerings, little tricks of the trade, if you will, for doing this type of stuff/pit work. It's like getting a free lesson every time we play. Love it!!

You know, come to think of it, October was pretty good, too!

Congradtz to an outstanding upstanding
upright member of the community.

Don't sweat it. Audiences are tone deaf,
can't clap, and never lizzen anywho. But
do put in some practice, as it seems like
some of your audiences have no access
to alcohol :-)

That's awesome! Wish I could say the same about my own gig forecast for the next month.

Sheesh. Picked up another gig tonight.

Oh wellll.....December's lookin' pretty good but after that the bottom drops out. Enjoy the gigs while I've got them and save the money!

I'm down to 3 a month for a bit. Probably will pick up a party or 3. We usually do. Kinda of a nice break after the outdoor season though. Between the band and sound company, I needed the rest, will be going stir crazy mid winter unless the snow falls though...

December is light for me. The wife and I are heading up to Oregon for some vacation along the coast in Seaside/North Bend/Pacific City. Any good venues up there for shows (Mal or Paul)?

I really never get over there. We went south of there to Lincoln City but had our bikes along. I was too thrashed after riding the trails to even consider going out past refueling... Went beach running with the dogs there - same deal...

Up in Astoria there are some venues. I think the Fort George brewing company there is a possibility. Hopefully Paul will know more than I.

Thanks, Gonz! And I'm good about taking care of the hands. Stretches, warming up, etc etc. Plus I'm on my instruments on a regular basis anyway.

One of our favorites along the coast is Eden Hall. http://www.edenhall.com/ Horrible, outdated website, but great little concert venue and the food is pretty good as well.
