The end, or a new beginning??????

The round table for bass brethren off topic discussion.

The end, or a new beginning??????

Postby FatherGino » Sun Nov 29, 2015 7:36 pm

I'm going to get a triple arthodesis this Wednesday which amounts to taking a sawzall to my right foot and re-assembly with screws, reconstituted bone and maybe some duct tape. No weight bearing on that foot for 10 weeks or so and no driving either. The only upside might be some good drugs going home with me. Thought of doing extensive bass wood shedding though I'll have to learn to play with my right foot level with my heart. Maybe I'll write my musical memoirs. Exciting tales of my 35+ year long tour of Connecticut (well Maine to NYC really). I've certainly hung with some real characters over the years. Or maybe I'll sit in my pillow stuffed recliner drooling and watching TV.

Drivetime; my band for the last 6 years has called it quits rather suddenly. Our fearless leader is burnt out, overworked, going deaf etc. I played the last gig with them Friday night which was very well attended by 150 rabid (and aging) Drivetime fans. We already have two dates next July & November for our reunion tour.

Assuming my foot mends, I'm sure I'll end up in some other band eventually but it's gonna be a long, cold, bleak winter.

St Paul & the Broken Bones will be playing in Providence come January. Not sure if my foot will allow such goings on but I'd love to go. I just ordered a knee scooter so maybe I could.
There are two kinds of music, the good kind and the other kind. I like both.

I don't know...
TV and drooling would be fun in moderation
but would get old pretty fast for me.

Might I suggest stocking up on some instructional material before the "vacation"?
With that kind of time,
you could actually reinvent your playing
or even write your solo CD.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery either way.

Memoirs could be fun. Everyone loves some good road stories.

Good luck with the surgery, make sure to keep at the PT and any pre surgery PT to help your recovery.

For your spare time, Ed Friedland has some great books.

Also Scott's Bass Lessons are very good and free for the most part.

Welllll....Your description of your surgery is quite....Realistic??

Take it easy on the pain meds. Don't become a statistic for opiate addiction. (It's a real issue in my neck of the woods.)

And your idea of practicing with your foot as heart level? Shoot.....Try it out and experiment. You never know.

Keep us updated! And good luck!!
