When I need to go to my musical happy place...

Postby Mr. Mom » Sat May 07, 2016 6:54 am

...This one does it for me.

Check out Trowers' 2nd and 3rd solos. Especially his opening statements. Been listening to this for....30 years??...And it still gets my rocks off. But I'm just a Midwetsern rockin'/blues boy.

Not sure if James Dewar is on bass? But his vox are killing it.

What's your musical HP? (Happy Place)

I've long loved Trower from Procal Harum on, especially the Dewer years!

Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues" still takes me away.

Any group that can write a catchy tune about Homer's travels is OK by me.

My older sister turned my onto Katy Lied when I was in high school. I didn't like it. Probably didn't sound sound enough like Rush for me at the time. [smilie=smilie_kopf.gif] Yeah...I was a dumbass. (Still am, too.)

For me its the first song I fell in love with, Black water by Doobie Brothers. I was pretty young, but I saved my money and bought my first 45 RPM record. That song still gets me just as much as the first time.

Trower is always a happy place for me. Seeing them on the Bridge of Sighs Tour at Winterland SF, was life changing. Here is that very show, I had just turned 14... [smilie=cool-smiley-031.gif]

Wow. Face melting. On that first tune, when they go into the halftime bit at about 3:00, it seems like the video goes into slow mo as well. That shit just blew my mind.

...and he sure is loud. Face meltingly loud... But yes he can play...

I saw him about 25 (+/-) years ago. He was not as loud as that YouTube clip, IIRC, he had two Fender Twins onstage, kicked back and pointing up at him? (IIRC.) It was a killer show. Sound was good and the rhythm section was just deadly. It was not JD on bass when I saw him.

Man, I was soooo high for Trower. I remember it was a great show but I got lost in the swirl and lost myself. Came to when the lights came up and folks shuffled out. [smilie=smilie_kopf.gif]

Reminds me of going to California Jam right after I got home from overseas...(1972).. Billed as the 'Woodstock of the west'. It was a long, blurry weekend........missed many of the acts I specifically came to see while passed out on a blanket.... I did manage to wake up to see ELP with their Spinning grand piano....... And a topless woman with huge....er...... Personalities dancing right over my head: After. 8 months of floating off the coast of Viet Nam... I thought I had died and went to heaven.....
