NOBD

Postby Golem » Sat May 21, 2016 2:58 pm

Having long nurtured a bad atteetood tooward Warwick Thumb models, cuz I can
be a raving loony about hang balance, I do admit to never having touched one ...
until this one followed me home. The sound and the neck hooked me and so I was
determined to do something about the hang. In the pix you can see a coupla minor
mods to that end. I did what I could about it without making any new holes, so if
somehow it proves to be beyond my ability to accommodate the balance, and the
extra reach to the cash zone, it remains as re-sellable as possible ... since it's in
"98% new" condition [altho made in 2003].

Unlike some fellow Dudelanders, I do like Warwicks. But the standard Warwick
5-string neck always felt horrible to me. I tried it twice and swore offa Warwick
5-strings. But this is NOT the standard 5-string. It's very wide and flat, quite the
opposite of the 5's that bugged me. Warwick calls it the Broad Neck and that is a
major understatement. The string to string space is wider than a 4-string P-bass,
and it's also crazy wide at the nut [didn't measure].

Has an ebony board and all the rest of the wood is ovangkol. The tone palette is
waaaay extreeeeme, like it can do ANYTHING ... P-bass, Hammond B3, Flea Bass,
yada yada ... and can even sound more like a J-bass than a Fender J-bass. Yup. I
did say that. Marcus would sound more like Marcus on this rather than a J-bass.
Just soze nobody thinks I toadally wigged out, this IS a bolt-on. It's still wearing
the previous owners DR flats and I don't feel or hear any reason to change them.

I know "No pix = no ax" so here's the pix:

Pics aren't working for me?

And a Warwick?? I don't know, man.......Nothing ever good has come from playing a Warwick.

Beats me why you don't see the pix. Try this,
where I posted to the Warwick forum. Despite
any concerns, you won't catch virus over there:

http://forum.warwick.de/showthread.php/ ... pside-Down

You weasel-worded your reply. Acoarst "Nothing
ever good has come from playing a Warwick" ...
cuz, as one of our brethren writes in his sig line:
"Nothing good ever came from playing [any] guitar".

No pix here either and the link didn't have any.
Are we to consider this purchase somewhat suspect? [smilie=cool-smiley-027.gif]

So THAT"S why that response came to me so quickly. Oh well.... [smilie=fun_84.gif]

And I'm not clicking on any 'Wick site. Lord only knows what crazy degenerate stuff goes on over there. I shudder to even imagine!

I have a confession. I not only played Warwicks for a number of years (1998 until 2004 I think) but I also had an endorsement deal with them. While they sounded amazing, the neck drop and the extra reach it took because of how small the bodies were got to me. I kept going back to G&Ls because of this. It's only now that I can admit the shame of this.

OK. If you now see the images, don't bother reading the crap below.
If you CAN'T see the images, read the crap below :-(

Well, if no one can see them, then this is where that's at ........

Could you read the text in that thread when you
followed the link ? You can see by the posted replies
that peeps there could see the pix. I can see the pix
both here and on the Warwick site.

Here at BABP I can find no way to directly upload
pix from my PC. You hafta enter the URL of the pix
where they reside somewhere online. Therefor, the
URL I entered for each pic is it's URL at the W site.
And that worked OK, since I can see the pix HERE !

BABP offers to upload pix from "Image Shack" but
not from my PC. Since I don't use "Image Shack" nor
"Flicker" nor any other online image storage site, I
can't upload to here from there. And I don't see
what difference it makes whether I upload to here
from "Image Shack" or the W site. Upload is upload.
IOW, you prolly still wouldn't see them.

This situation is more or less new. I have many pix
posted in older threads here at BABP. All other sites
facilitate direct uploads of pix from my PC.

Sooooo ... forget I ever mentioned NOBD, and let's
leave it at that. Unless someone can show me that
I'm overlooking a "upload pix from PC" function
which I somehow failed to find here.

I see 'em.
Nice!

Not sure I understand the strap button though.
It's attached to the tail piece?

Yes. The pix tend to make it look kinda tall-standing
off the tailpiece but it's directly attached on it, just
substituting a longer screw for the original.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Don't need a strap lock, no way ! And all my basses
use either one rubber bumper as seen there, or two
... one on each side of the original strap button. But
when it's a pair they hafta be tall enuf that they hit
the floor instead of the centered button, so you can
lean it against a wall or a cab and it won't fall over.

Most of my basses have the pair. A single bumper is
indicative of a bass thaz not yet a confirmed keeper,
so it would be ill advised to drill any new holes !

New basses are red. Used basses are black.

I played 100 of gigs on a 90s thumb 5 string. I had a sort of seat belt I made using a strap lock that did the trick.
