NAMM 2017....anyone going?

Postby jshilgebass » Tue Dec 20, 2016 3:53 pm

By some miracle (to me, at least) I am going to NAMM 2017. Is anyone else here coming to it?

I am not but my bud Charlie Escher aka Passinwind will be in the Marco Bass Guitars booth with some of his mad scientist stuff. He has a new stomp format thing that looks pretty awesome. Hoping to get my hands on one post show. I own PW-8 which is one of his amps and it is the quietest amp I've ever heard. Makes HIFI seem LOFI ... I mean like you need the down escalator to find the noise floor. Amazing... look him up and scope his stuff!
I used to look at my dog Smokey and think, "If you were a little smarter, you could tell me what you're thinking," and he'd look back at me like he was saying, "If you were a little smarter, I wouldn't have to." - Fred Jungclaus

I'm still working on a badge. Still up in the air. If it works out, I'd love to run into the SD boys! [smilie=music-smiley-005.gif]

Not going to make it this year. Taking care of some family issues.
Somebody have an $8 hot dog for me! [smilie=icon_biggrin.gif]

Here's some of the things I saw at NAMM...

The preamp created by Charlie Escher (Passinwind). A lot of people were trying out this magic box.

These are the instruments made by the man who got me a NAMM pass.

and the man himself (on the right) Alan Cringean

One of our resident BABP luthiers had some nice instruments on display...

Hey Joe, did we meet? That's actually a full blown bass amp, the sister build to the one Mal mentioned. I brought it along as kind of an an afterthought, but it ended up being used pretty much constantly for all four days. Those things were built mainly as a proof of concept deal, and did actually help me land some contract work designing and prototyping bass oriented widgets for someone who wants to do production and marketing, which are really just not my thing. Their products will be quite a bit different from what I build to my own warped taste, which is probably a good thing.

The purple boxes in the back of that pic are the preamps in demo stompbox guise, which are primarily meant to be onboard installs. The treble section is a "filter" format, somewhat familial to what Alan Cringean uses in his AC basses. I talked with Alan a bit, and as usual at various GTGs, hung with the Regenerate crew for a good while when I could get away from the crazy busy Marco Bass booth. All three of those guys sure had a lot of beautiful eye candy in their booths this year!

Sorry for the late reply. Life ensued, and I am just now getting caught up on all my internet forums...

Yes we did, if only for a couple of nanoseconds, on Friday of the NAMM show. You talked about those purple boxes with the preamps, and like Bruce I was very interested in them.

...if you build it, we will come. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]
