Jaco's son is touring with the Yellowjackets. I caught them this past weekend at the Saratoga (NY) Jazz fest.

Good set, but the outdoor acoustics did not favor the bass.

Struck me as a melodic player. Reserved stage presence but he clearly has all the chops he needs with some to spare. And hands that could wrap around a water melon (Google the pictures).

He was playing a 5-string Fodera, fretted. Looked like it had a ramp. Favoring the bridge pickup.

Compared to his Dad? Sorry, I'm not going there. He's his own muiscian.

One of the guys I knew from college plays with him quite frequently.

I'm glad he's not trying to be his father and instead, doing his own thing.

I have the live double CD he did with Jeff Coffin and he just kills with one of my favorite drummers, Jeff Sipe. He's definitely come into his own voice. I felt bad when he first started coming up because people were just gunning for him because of his last name. Can't wait to hear him with the Yellowjackets.
