Baddasss Brian Bromberg

Saw him with Jeff Lorber and drummer Third Richardson behind sax player Michael MacArthur last night.

He was playing upright with electric attitude and attack-very aggressive playing , tone and volume.
He even had the F holes stuffed with foam to prevent feedback.
Plays everything, does anything everyone else can do and more, yet it all came with the flow and nothing was overplayed.
Even as a sideman he dominated.
I spoke with Lorber afterwards and he too was blown away and he's been playing with him for 30 years.

Why does n't BB have a higher profile?

Been many many years since i listened to Lorber or Bromberg. But your right.....watching this video reminds me what an absolute comfortable player Bromberg is. His solo at 4:00 is sweet. Makes it look so "channeled" through his body. So effortless.

Exactly right. Technique is a given, he simply expresses himself through the instrument within the context of the song.

It seems that Jazz musicians don't really get the recognition on a wide scale basis . . .until they are gone.
Seriously, at least from my perspective, they seem have close loyal followings but not the widespread R&R promoted personas.
