Actually, I'll give this the piker's salute. The thing about Spinal Tap is that the actors really did the playing. For them to have so completely nailed being a total rock parody says volumes about their abilities.

Spinal Tap rules and, ergo, so does Derek Smalls!

best bassist EVER! Actually; best bass performance in a comedy movie ever! He's really good on that thing. Big Bottom is a true bass masterpiece.

And let's not forget classics like 'Sex Farm' and 'Stonehenge' and the fun 'Gimme' Some Money'....

And let's not forget his alter-ego...Mark Shubb!

He spanked a mighty fine doghouse!

I have to say, there are a lot of bass players in the world and out of all of them, Derek Smalls is one of them! [smilie=cheeky-smiley-025.gif]

We actually do "Gimmie Some Money" once in awhile...

People always come up and ask us who wrote that tune! Silly people.

Cheers,
Chris

Two cats started it all for me: Derek Smalls, and Slade from Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers.

Those guys could play. Sort of. Anyway they were both pretty badass.

Double Neck..........

Postby Laredo » Mon Apr 30, 2007 9:24 pm

I love the double neck bass in "Big Bottom". There probably was only one 4 string/4 string ever built! [smilie=cheeky-smiley-025.gif] I bet he didn't even have one of the necks strung BEAD back then!................. [smilie=fun_84.gif] I laugh every time I see all the bass players in that song...............Must make the guitar guys nuts.

I wish those guys would come through Seattle again. I'd love to see them live.
