Just tried a set of D'Addario ETB92 tapewound on one of my jazz basses...

IMHO these are REALLY worth a try!

I'm really happy with the "old school" thump. [smilie=music-smiley-005.gif]

Tapes have a percussive click - fun to play with - I've used them to record but never had a gig that I found them appropriate for.
