Wunkay refinish project

Postby dukeplaysbass » Sun Feb 17, 2013 9:20 am

So, I picked up a 1981 L-1000 as a project bass. It was sold to me with a deep discount because of a bad refin.

Here she is at five feet:

But when you get closer:

So I started stripping the finish and found it was originally shoreline gold:

My plan was to refin it to burgundy mist, but I've now decided to put it back to shoreline gold.

If BABPers are interested, I'd be happy to post more pix in this thread along the way. But I'd also like to invite you to check out the project in more detail over at http://www.DukeVsBass.com.

Thanks!

I can't wait to see it when restored Tris. I like the title of your most recent blog post :) I don't think G&L carries the old G&L machine thread pickup mounting screws. I have a few laying around and can point you to a reliable source if you need a bunch.

Thought you might - you summed the whole thing up so very well, I had to steal it!

(Actually, I just edited the post to credit you for it....thank you!)
