BABE L2000 feeling the love

Postby TomA » Sat Sep 28, 2013 12:17 pm

Last week I played at a HS reunion and an old classmate, who went on to have a very successful music career, played my BABE L-2000. He flipped. This is a guy who’s played them all and knows his stuff. He raved about it at the gig and I just assumed he was being gracious, but he just contacted again me to ask about the bass. :)

I know “great story bro” but I got a kick out if it.

Getting a pro's attention like that is always a nice thing!

I've owned the #1 and #3 BABP limited editions and got to play a friend's #2, and they were completely wonderful! I like to think the factory did an extra special job on them but I've had lots of factory run basses from G&L that were awesome as well.

I think it's a cool story.

Always nice to hear someone likes you bass.
'Specially when it's not some drunk in the bar
but someone who knows what they're talking about.

I have BABP-LE #13 and it's a wonderful, versatile bass. Unfortunately it is also getting the least playing time of all my basses these days. :(

My 5'ers get the majority of play time and then my other 4 bangers usually get the non-5 string call. My 4 bangers are:

  • Steinberger L2 - the bass that is "home" to me; lots of time & gigs together
  • Sadowsky UV70 (Ultra Vintage 70's) Jazz - I cut my teeth on a J bass, therefore it is very familiar to me
  • Fender HRP (Hot Rod Precision) P/J - gotta have a P and this one is my "go to" utility bass w/custom U-Retro preamp
  • G&L BABP-LE L-2000 - another great utility bass w/custom U-Retro preamp
Based on my playing time these days I may be letting go of a couple of basses because I am not a collector and basses are made to be played. All of my basses should be played more than they are.

To "B" or not to "B"... that is the question. ;)

Hey Gil, I'll be keeping an eye on the "for sale" forum. If your BABE L-2000 ever shows up, I'll let my old friend know. He really feel in love with the bass.

I downsized a few years back. My BABE L2000 and my El Toro were the keepers. And those are the two I will have for the rest of my life.

I'm with you, Matt. My BABE L-2000 is a keeper. Hey, I wouldn't be surprised if you know the guy I'm referring to. I graduated High School with him. His name is Alan "Levi" Levy and he spent the better part of 20 years with Little Buster and The Soul Brothers.
