Jamie,
Received the tracing, thanks. As luck would have it I'm swamped at work but plan to at least get the cut out done ASAP. I'll be sure to show the results as I have them.

Ok,
Sorry for the delay but here are a couple of pics of the pickguard template thanks to Jamie. [smilie=music-smiley-005.gif] One has a cut out for the controll panel. I turned the cut out to match the curve of the controlls. The other has no cut out. At first I liked the cut out till my wife said she liked the one without. [smilie=cheeky-smiley-025.gif]
What do ya' think?

IMHO...............Since the controls are "rear loaded", I'm with your wife on this one. Unless you are adding a chrome plate as a decorative piece around the knobs and switches. That would be cool too!............ [smilie=grinning-smiley-044.gif]

Dan,

Looks great.

Will be perfect with the pearloid treatment.

Jamie

BTW, No to the controls cutout.

Greetings. I have been following these posts with interest, as I am exploring a pg for my ASAT. Any chance I can buy a tracing? I've got a Butterscotch. Thinking of a single ply in black. Many Thanks.

I'm still not seeing any benefit of putting a pg on an ASAT bass. It doesn't even look good!!!!

To me, G&L's have never looked right with a p/g; YMMV, etc...

Having got that out of the way, I don't like the control plate idea, nor do I like the big flat line across the bottom.
I'd prefer to see both sides curve into the pickup cutout...
I also concur that a white pearloid would be a nice material for that...

Our differences are what makes the world interesting. I like the look on the ASAT- can't see it on any other G&L, though.

I like it a lot, but I'm the guy that put a Tele "cowpoke" bass guard on my 55-94. |No cut out BTW.... I like the idea but without the straight control cover it looks like a compromise.

Here is my ASAT bass with custom pickguard. I really like it and no regrets. I think the shape of the scratchplate was integral to Leo Fenders design genius, including the weird cut-off slab. It's one of those things that should'nt look right, but always has. I have owned this bass 10 years and love it, but have always thought it needed that pick-guard. Finally got the courage to add it and it's now perfect. I am sure other would disagree, but hey...to each his own.

That looks great and should at the very least, be an option. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

OK, that PG looks good on that ASAT. I guess it would be too much of a coverup on my Spalted ASAT.

You may consider light tack, double side tape for mounting the pg.

Lemme know if you will want a tracing. Jamie

BTW, think the bridge plate notch on the pickguard would look good fitted to the neck PU.

Hi there I want a PG on my ASAT Bass too. Do you still have the tracing? If so, could you please email it to me?
