NOTE TO ALL: Contacted G&L again, but this time agreed to bring the bass to them in a month or so for their inspection. That being said, WILL NOT be doing anything (including shielding) until they have a chance to look it over.

Thanks to all for your comments, and I'll keep you posted as to what I find out. In the mean time, if anyone has additional comments or questions, please let me know.

The noise is it like single coil noise? Could be the caps on the middle switch. Just get your soldering iron and lift the leads off the switch.

See if the bridge ground is still OK. Many an old bass you need to lift the bridge and address the wire underneath.

Depending on time of day, the "noise" can either be a medium-pitched hum, crackly static, or very rarely a radio station. Hopefull at least this can get addressed when I take the bass to G&L.

Posted two pics of a 1981 L-1000 bass. Supposedly the date is March 1981:

Head stock shape and G&L label location are different, but control plate outer design and electronics access (front vs. rear) are the same.

What pics are you referring to that you want me to remove?

The L-1000 pics came from a myspace location (refer to the link in my post).

Assume you were talking about the L-1000 pics, so I removed those. The only other pics I've got out on photobucket are: 1) my bass, and 2) the ads. None of those came from Greg's site.

Sorry, didn't know wasn't supposed to do that, and wasn't paying attention as to where the L-1000 pics came from.

No worries, and thanks. We're here to support. Thanks for understanding. [smilie=grinning-smiley-003.gif]

Was asked for the measurements and locations of each of the 2 pickups relative to the neck. Wouldn't think giving that information out would be an issue, but feel should check with the group first.

Not being a smart aleck, just trying to prevent issues.

No issues with measurements or any info shared, we're just protecting ownership of material that is rightfully owned by members and or moderators here.

Wait until tonight. On my 'puter at home I have the measurements of the Sabre, fretboard side of the nut to the center of the pole pieces is one.

Odds are the Sabre and yours are going to match.

Posted this on the "PASSIVE L2K! forum as well:

Found the PCB, it was stuffed in the gig bag. Posted pics to http://s750.photobucket.com/home/kingman_666
Obviously somebody swapped out the input jack. Am taking it in today to have it worked on, and will have the guy wire the board back up. The cut wires on the board will be easy to match up with the controls as fortunately the wires are color coded.

Would apprecate if someone could checkout the PCB pics and let me know what new light (if any) they shed on what I've got.

Thanks
Ron
