Is My EMG P Pickup Active or Passive?

Postby ampig » Mon Dec 02, 2013 8:29 am

Just bought a used EMG P pickup. The seller said it was passive. I have my doubts. On the back of one pickup coil is a label that says "IG". EMG is printed on the covers. The back sides are filled with black epoxy. The output wires are a single unshieled red and a larger shielded white. The same larger unshielded white wire connects the two pick coils.

If your pickup is active and you have enough room in your control cavity, consider making the 18 volt modification. It's very easy to do. The results are subjective, but I really like it on my EMG p-pickup equipped bass. It's also easily reversable if you decide you don't like it.

I want to stay passive. This won't be going in the bass

Links: Yanno, you live a very short time and then you spend a very long time dead so eat great food, love extra hard, hold on for the ride, and play some bass along the way.
