My new bass

My new bass

New to me that is. After checking out a Palentino CCB (cheap Chinese bass), I got a chance to check out this bass out for a week before buying it.
I took it to a friend of mine who is a luthier. He liked it a lot, he did not like the Palentino. It is a Selmer Aristocrat bass. There is not much info out there on it, but we are guessing it's German or Czech, branded and sold by Selmer sometime from the 70's to 90's. If anyone knows more about it please let me know.
It's laminated and has an ebony fingerboard. Plays and sounds nice.
It came with Helicoil steel strings, just put some weedwackers on it. I also put on a K&K Bass Max pickup and "clicky" fingerboard pickup.
The rockabilly players at http://www.doublebasschat.com are raving about Cordes Lambert wackers, I've got a set of them on the way. They say they are very close to guts.

Very nice, Butch! That bears a really strong resemblance to a Strunal brand bass I had that was built in the old Lidl factory in Czechoslovakia. It had the same setup, finish looked very similar, and the shape of the peg box and F-holes look the same too. I read that factory has been producing string instruments for generations, under a variety of brand names.

Nice fiddle. What do you think of the wackers? I replaced my G with a length of .085 gatorline for about a minute longer than it took me to tune it to pitch. Interesting concept.
