Old David Gage Realist P/U "Clipping"

Old David Gage Realist P/U "Clipping"

That's right - the passive signal is farting out when I hit a strong note. At first I thought it was my onboard "blender" acting up but when I ran the pickup straight in to a passive DI to the board, it still did it. (Right in the middle of a session, too [smilie=coz.gif] - good thing I still had a magnetic P/U to fall back on.)

So has anyone else had a similar experience to this? I'll check the wiring and the jack, but I suspect the problem is deeper than that. I've been using the heck out of this pickup for over 10 years - maybe it's just worn out. I'm tempted to get another one just like it, but I'm also open to suggestions for a nice, woody, natural-sounding alternative.

I'm looking forward to getting this resolved. The magnetic pickup works OK but if that was the sound I wanted, I'd save myself a lot of hassle and play fretless. (Not that anyone else is noticing any of this - they just want to see me haul in the big wood tuba & they're happy. [smilie=cheeky-smiley-025.gif] )
The guitarists & drummers get all the students - we get all the gigs.
